What to do when there is a down or damaged power line?

If you see a downed or damaged power line, presume it is live and dangerous. Stay at least 10 metres back (the length of a bus) and call 911 to report the incident. To keep safe, remember these three words: Down, Danger, Dial. For more information.

Look for any dead animals near the pole. Look for any animals near the bottom of the cutout pole.

What is the best place for a generator?

The best place for a generator is outside of the home’s back porch or balcony so the noise from the unit isn’t disruptive.

 

Why do you need backup power?

If you have a power outage, it can be inconvenient if you have no backup power for your home. It’s always good to know that you’re not completely reliant on the grid if something happens.

Some people are just happy with candles and an emergency radio to keep them company when the power is out, but for most people, that isn’t enough.
